We discovered the other side of Mario Bellini, besides that of designer and architect: his person inside his world, made of objects and manner. Internationally renowned architect and designer, Mario Bellini has collected 8 Compassi D’Oro during his lifetime while 25 of his works are on permanent display at the MoMa of New York. The Maestro tells us the story of Chiara, a lamp which is a worldwide icon of Italian design, in a short documentary curated by C41 and directed by director Michele Foti.
“I remember grabbing a pair of scissors and a large piece of cardboard and starting to cut. I wanted the card to be cylinder-shaped but with a wider hat at the top that would reflect the light source, positioned at the base. And Chiara was born.”
